National Highways are seeking to undertake a second trial the capabilities of AI camera technology to monitor, detect and capture litter being dropped on the SRN to understand if it can be used to prosecute those dropping litter from vehicles. National Highways does not have powers of enforcement and as such are required to collaborate with Principal littering authorities to bring enforcement action against those littering on the strategic road network. This trial will be the second iteration, aiming to evaluate the effectiveness of technology in monitoring, detecting, and gathering the necessary evidence to support enforcement action against littering from moving vehicles across two live traffic lanes. The trial will leverage the existing system and cameras procured during Trial 1, supplemented by the procurement of two additional cameras and associated attachments to improve detection and monitoring coverage across two live traffic lanes. Approved by Digital Services.
