The future leisure & wellbeing service will have three core elements:
- Leisure and Active Wellbeing Centres (Leisure Centres).
- Active Communities (Health & Wellbeing, Sports Development).
- System Leadership (Advice & Guidance).
TMBC has developed a broad portfolio of leisure facilities, with the most recent centre, the Tameside Wellness Centre, opening in 2020. Conditions surveys undertaken across the portfolio in 2026 have highlighted the need for a lifecycle investment programme which TMBC has committed to.
TMBC is also developing a Leisure Investment Strategy, informed by a recent Leisure Build Facilities Strategy and upcoming Playing Pitch Strategy, to define investment plans for the development of the leisure portfolio over the next 5-10 years.
It is TMBC's intention that this will include development of a new facility to replace Ashton Leisure Centre (closed in 2023) and consider development options for Active Copley linked to the facility's age and condition.
Bikeability supports children to learn to cycle and after Bikeability are more likely to cycle to school or cycle for leisure. Developing these skills at an early age increases the likelihood these children will remain active as an adult. The programme supports the active travel and climate emergency agendas through encouraging a mode shift to cycling for active travel.
The Bikeability Trust administer the Bikeability programme on behalf of the Department for Transport.
Hyde Town Hall - Roof repairs and internal refurbishment
The brief is to repair the roof including lead work , tiles and pointing , and then to do an internal refurbishment including a reconfiguration of the rooms to allow for a new bar area and new dressing areas for events with the possibility of new lift access.
Tackling domestic abuse is a key priority for Tameside Council and its partners. The local domestic abuse strategy (2021-2026) commits to seven strategic ambitions as part of the multi-agency commitment to ending domestic abuse in Tameside, one of which is: Holding perpetrators accountable for their behaviour and the impact it has on children.
Following successful delivery nationally and internationally, Tameside Council agreed to fund the delivery of the Caring Dads programme as a pilot project in 2023.
Tameside & St Helens Council are seeking to establish a framework agreement for the hire of various types of vehicles from cars to specialist heavy goods vehicles.
The framework agreement will also be open to all Liverpool City Region Local Authorities and all STAR Procurement Partners to utilise if they wish to do so.
Highways Asset Management Plan (HAMP) Framework Agreement
The updated HAMP provides a clear, evidence led framework for investing in and maintaining the network in a more proactive and efficient way. By shifting from reactive repairs to planned, preventative maintenance, the council can reduce long term costs, minimise disruption and extend the life of critical assets. This approach strengthens network resilience, supports active travel and enhances safety for all users.
