The purpose of this brief is to seek the services of an experienced Environmental Contractor. The contractor will: 1.Undertake the works provided within the Design Report (available in supporting information) with regards to the creation of a benched 2-stage floodplain and channel, installation of in-channel woody deflectors and contour swale creation. 2.Bench out the floodplain on the right-hand bank of the existing watercourse and excavate a new sinuous second flow channel. This will be fed by hillslope drainage and higher flows from the beck via bankside scrapes and placement of in-channel woody material targeting spate events typically Q4/5). The upper bench of the two-stage floodplain channel will activate during a Qmed event (approx. 1 in 2 year return period). Combined these features will reduce impacts of channel incision, reduce erosive forces during high flows and promote sediment deposition. 3.Excavate series of scrapes and floodplain pools within the new floodplain. 4.Fell designated trees and fix root plates/trunks into the bank to create woody deflectors in the existing watercourse that will divert flow at Q4/5 events into the floodplain. 5.Excavate a series of interconnected contoured scrapes throughout the wider site which will divert existing drains and springs into the newly dug channel. These features will improve retention onsite increasing the resilience of habitats during drought conditions. They will also improve attenuation during high intensity rainfall events, increasing the overall climate resilience of the reach.
