The Greater Manchester Equality Panels have been established to advise, support and challenge Greater Manchester's political leaders and policy-makers to tackle the discrimination and disadvantage that cause injustice and inequality in society, and champion Greater Manchester as an inclusive city-region. They do this by working together with the GMCA and partners to: • Provide insight into Greater Manchester's diverse communities, enabling political leaders and public bodies to listen and engage in a more targeted and effective way • Communicate key messages to our communities as trusted sources • Codesign policies, programmes and strategies to ensure they work effectively for communities • Support an asset-based approach, highlighting new opportunities (and challenges) for positive collaboration that build on the resources and strengths within our communities
The LGBTQ+ Equality Panel focuses on addressing the specific inequalities and barriers faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer communities across Greater Manchester. It provides expert insight into issues such as discrimination, health inequalities, community safety, inclusive services, and representation. The Panel works collaboratively with policymakers to ensure that LGBTQ+ voices are embedded in decision-making, policies are inclusive of diverse gender identities and sexual orientations, and services are accessible and equitable. It also plays a key role in promoting visibility, inclusion, and community cohesion across the city-region.
The Older People's Equality Panel is dedicated to representing the needs and experiences of older residents, tackling age-related inequalities, and promoting healthy, independent, and fulfilling lives. The Panel provides guidance on issues such as social isolation, access to healthcare, digital inclusion, housing, transport, and age-friendly communities. It ensures that the perspectives of older people are reflected in policy development and service design, while also challenging ageism and promoting positive ageing. The Panel supports Greater Manchester's ambition to be an age-friendly city-region where older people are valued and empowered
The Women and Girls Equality Panel focuses on advancing gender equality and addressing the systemic inequalities affecting women and girls across Greater Manchester. It provides strategic insight on issues such as gender-based violence, economic inequality, health disparities, education, and representation in leadership. The Panel works to ensure that policies and services are responsive to the needs of women and girls, promoting safety, opportunity, and empowerment. It also supports collaborative approaches to tackling inequality and amplifies the voices of women and girls from diverse backgrounds.
