VMware licenses provide the virtual infrastructure (private cloud) for the whole University and the most advantageous licence for the scale the University uses is the Enterprise License Agreement (ELA) and is priced based the number of devices to be covered (processor cores). The University has held this type of licence since 2016 and covers numerous VMware products used across the University: 1) vSphere Enterprise (Virtualisation Software, including compute and storage) 2) VMware Horizon Test platform (Virtual Desktop and application software) - increased licences 3) VMware vRealize Operations (management software) 4) Consultancy and Training Credits The current ELA ends on the 27th April 2026 and needs to be renewed otherwise the University digital systems will stop working and be unsupported. This virtualisation software is a critical service used by the University and runs all of the campus-based systems, including: 1) General Virtual/Cloud environment on campus a. Infrastructure servers b. Academic Servers c. Research serves d. Business engagement 2) The SITS infrastructure 3) The Virtual Desktop (VDI) service 4) Security and management platforms for the above 5) Training Credits so we keep up with the technology. Without these services the University digital server infrastructure would stop working
