This contract is for the provision of constructing of a new teaching block with associated groundworks at the rear of the site of the existing Shepwell School to accommodate an additional 50 special educational needs (SEN) pupils together with additional playground facilities. The Shepwell School located on Bilston Lane in the town of Willenhall in Walsall was built in the 1970s as an Adult Education Centre, now operates as a Short Stay School and Specialist Autism Resource Base. It accommodates pupils aged 11-16 with social, emotional, and complex educational needs. The project is to address a shortfall in SEND school places by increasing capacity from 84 to 134 pupils through the addition of a new two-storey teaching block. The modular design will minimise construction disruption and improve site safety, sustainability, and accessibility. The works required comprise a new modular building with associated pathway external works, a new canopy to connect to the existing school with adaptation of the existing canopy walkways. Facilities should be aligned with Building Bulletin 104 for SEND pupils. A piled foundation solution has been designed and pumped drainage will be required to suit existing levels. A Phase II Site Investigation has been undertaken during w/c 17/02/2025. An interim report will be made available at the earliest opportunity during the tender period. The site will remain a live environment during the works and will remain in use for its duration. The Contractor is to ensure that the working areas are separated from the school area and allow for fencing/hoarding as necessary. There should be no interaction between unauthorised Contractor's staff and staff and pupils of the school.
