Costain have been appointed to deliver contract HRS02, the Tunnel and Lineside Mechanical and Electrical services for HS2 ltd. A high-speed railway project that connects London to Birmingham with plans to extend in the future. The project requires all electronic and electrical plant, (including systems sub-systems and components) forming part of the railway to be designed and installed to operate, be electrically safe and compatible with other HS2 plant, as well as being compatible with plant from outside the HS2 environment or plant provided by third parties. The project will adhere to established industry approaches, standards, and legal requirements, including the application of BS EN 50121 for EMC and the adoption of BS EN 50122 and BS7671 for electrical safety and E&B. Package P26 refers to the Electro-Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) Management Consultancy. The EMC Management Consultant will lead the Contractor's electrical system compatibility activities during design, construction, testing and commissioning to ensure that relevant electrical system requirements are met. This includes • provision of documentation in respect of these activities; • compliance with the requirements of the Hs2 EMC strategies and procedures, or guidance documents • attendance at relevant meetings including HAZID/HAZOP workshops and interdisciplinary or system-level reviews • provision of support and assistance to the Contractor, Hs2 Project Manager, Employer and Others as necessary to enable HS2 to obtain regulatory approval and authorisation; and • provision of support and assistance to the Contractor, Hs2 Project Manager, Employer as necessary to define interfaces between the works and the works of the other Railway Systems Contractors and Others. The EMC Management Consultant will be appointed to manage how the project will govern all EMC requirements associated with the works. This is to ensure EMC obligations are met with evidences. Responsibilities will include ensuring the safe and reliable operation of all permanent equipment within the environment ensuring no adverse interference to other systems and equipment. Further to this it is to ensure compliance with the relevant legal EMC requirements, industrial EMC standards and any specific Hs2 requirements. The EMC Management Consultant will ensure that the design and installation of the EMC arrangements associated with the works satisfy the EMC requirements, ensuring the safety of persons, including from electro-magnetic fields (EMF) in accordance with the EMF Directive 2013/35/EU.
