Historic England are seeking to engage the services of a suitably qualified design team to develop and deliver a scheme to update the existing the Skeleton Preparation Building (often referred to the as the Skel Prep), to meet current safety requirements for laboratories working with flammable and explosive chemicals, to improve current working areas within the existing building, consider suitable storage facilities for flammable/explosive chemicals and staff amenities. Working through the RIBA stages, the design team will be expected to consider options(maximum of 3), which can then be developed through to a final design solution. This will then be fully designed, procured and delivered by the design team. The design team, led by the Lead consultant will be expected to manage the cost of the proposed solution within the stated project budget, providing cost checks at each RIBA Stage gateway' including a suitably detailed report and cost update. The design team will work with the HE Project Manager and Skel Prep's team to review and identify all the needs of the project and factor these into their proposals which can then be developed into a deliverable project of work. Allowance should be made to develop Room Data Sheets for each room/space. The expectation is that the scheme will be fully designed and specified with no contractor design portion unless agreed in writing with the Project Manager. The success of this project will be the delivery of an up-to-date Skeleton Preparation Laboratory that maximises the use of the existing building, meets all current safety and welfare requirements, providing efficient use of space with suitable storage to meet the needs of the end users, including space to house existing equipment, installing an efficient and effective building services solution that includes power, data, UPS and heating and is delivered within the project time scales.
