In 2021 Ashfield was identified as a Priority Place by the Arts Council and in 2022 as a Levelling Up for Culture Place recognising the historic low levels of engagement and investment in arts and culture. There is a need to invest in cultural provision across Ashfield to level-up our offer to communities and bring about wider positive change. The founding of Ashfield and Mansfield Cultural Compact, Captivate - the Local Cultural Education Partnership and the Ashfield Arts Partnership has created the necessary structures and partnerships to deliver sustainable change. In the development of the Ashfield Creates programme we heard from over 120 local residents and 35 community partner organisations and 25 schools who have taken part in consultation to co-design the programme and set the scene for a new 10-year cultural strategy. Ashfield Creates is a transformational investment in arts and culture in Ashfield with the core aim of: Increasing the engagement in and sustainability of arts, culture and creative activities across Ashfield to enable cultural empowerment and engagement, improve quality of life and boost skills to sustain future creative growth.
