The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS), part of the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), is an appointed market surveillance authority, responsible for (via the Secretary of State) enforcing the General Product Safety Regulations (GPSR) within the UK. Suppliers are strongly encouraged to read the text at the following link to gain a full understanding of the enforcement services role within BEIS OPSS: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/national-regulation-enforcement-services BEIS OPSS requires a supplier to perform testing on up to a total of 100 hair curlers/straighteners to verify compliance with the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 (and any amendments to these). Further detail of the testing standards are set out below: EN 60335-1:2012+A11:2014+A13:2017 & EN 60335-2- 23:2003+A1:2008+A11:2010+A2:2015 Labelling assessment - Visual check according to regulation o Reg 6 &39 CE (or UKCA mark) o Reg 8 Type, batch or serial number o Reg 8 Manufacturer name, trade name or trademark o Reg 8 Manufacturer address o Reg18 Importer's name, trade name or trademark o Reg 18 Importer's UK/EU address Safety testing - Clause 8: Protection against access to live parts - Clause 13: Leakage current and electric strength at operating temperature - Clause 29: Clearance, creepage distances and solid insulation The test methods applied should follow designated standards; the reference numbers of which have been published on www.gov.uk, or other reliable, accurate and reproducible calculation and measurement methods, which considers the recognised state of the art.
