The Department for International Trade (DIT) Maritime team has developed the Maritime Capability Campaign Office within the National Shipbuilding Office (NSO) to aid the increase of British exports. LATAC is one of the top priority regions for the MCCO. It has over 40 active shipyards delivering newbuilds, repairs and re-fits in the civil and defence sectors. The opportunities for UK suppliers include navies in Brazil, Colombia and elsewhere which have acquired vessels from the Royal Navy whose systems and technologies were originally supplied by UK manufacturers. The region also includes over 1500 port complexes. This represents strong export potential, considering the planned port investment and privatisation programmes and the UK's comprehensive offering of port solutions across all phases of a port's development cycle; from the design and inception stages right through to port specialisation with services such as digitalisation and smart port solutions. This research would deepen MCCO's understanding of the size, type and location of maritime opportunities for UK companies within the continent with clearly defined follow up actions. Until now there has been little focus on the civil sector in LATAC and this picture needs to be built up. DIT MCCO is commissioning this research to be better informed on the available opportunities within the established and emerging maritime market sectors in the LATAC civil maritime sector (particularly in Brazil and West Coast South America) which match UK capabilities.
