The early years workforce is key to unlocking the potential of children and young people in GM. There have and continue to be significant challenges across the early years workforce in relation to integrated working, levels of competency, recruitment, and retention. Strengthening the EY workforce and addressing these challenges is an identified priority within the GM School Readiness programme to March 2025. Over the last two years work has been underway to develop a GM Early Years Workforce Competency Framework which has required specialist expertise in early years practice and specialist knowledge of the early years system. Although development work for this has now been completed, workforce development still remains a key priority within the school readiness programme with an ongoing programme of activity agreed to address some of the key challenges outlined above. The role will support with a number of key activities relating to workforce development outlined below, providing specialist expertise to support the GM programme of work.
