Westmorland and Furness Council has pledged to accept 48 individual refugees under the following programmes: • UK Global Resettlement Scheme • Afghanistan Relocation and Assistance Policy (ARAP) • Afghanistan Citizens Relocation Scheme (ACRS) All refugees arriving in Cumbria and specifically in the Westmorland and Furness Council area have been displaced by war/conflict and referred by the Home Office. Refugees who arrive and settled in the Westmorland and Furness Council area do so with little or no personal belongings and do not have the means to furnish their new homes or purchase items that are essential to daily living. The primary purpose of this service is to ensure that Westmorland and Furness Council provides accommodation that is fit for purpose and meets the required standard. It is estimated based on the 'Pledge' that Westmorland and Furness Council will require in the region of 12 properties brought up to standard and furnished to accommodate the incoming refugees, most of whom will be families. Properties which are secured for this programme can be a mixture of social and private accommodation, which require decorating to bring them up to a liveable standard. Additionally, each property will require an entire furnishing package, including white goods, carpets and curtains/blinds. The service required for this programme of work will ensure the following outcomes: • Properties are brought up to standard within an agreed timescale and are habitable prior to arrival of the refugee family. • Internal superficial damage is corrected and made good. • Properties are decorated to a standard that is clean and fresh in neutral palette. • Properties are carpeted when required including kitchen lino's and laminate. • Each property is furnished to an agreed standard and in advance of refugee arrival.
