Westmorland and Furness Council ('the Council') is seeking to appoint a multidisciplinary consultancy team to undertake scheme development and preliminary design for two LTN1/20 compliant cycling, walking and wheeling routes in Barrow-in-Furness. The routes are along an ~1.87km length of Abbey Road (between the junctions with Park Drive and Ratings Lane) and an ~0.4km length of Duke Street (between Ramsden Square and Schneider Square). Both routes are identified with the Barrow-in-Furness Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP). This document sets out the Councils priorities for the delivery of cycling and walking improvements at a local level over the period 2022-2037, with the aim of encouraging more people to make journeys on foot or by bike. The Council has developed costed feasibility/concept designs for both routes and have secured funding for the next stage of design development through the Active Travel Fund 4 (ATF4) and Active Travel Fund 4 Extension (ATF4E). The Council now requires support to develop both routes to a preliminary level of design (RIBA Stage 3, or equivalent), produce costing and prepare documentation to support a future bid for delivery funding.
