As part of its' Better Moorings Project (BMP), Bath & North East Somerset council (B&NES) seek the provision of specialist recovery services to remove 5 (five) sunken boats from the central waterway (Pulteney stretch) in Bath and invites you to provide a quote. This follows B&NES showing due diligence through completion of relevant land searches, consultations with Legal Services, and engagement with the respective boat owners. As of 29th August 2024 B&NES considers all sunken boats 'abandoned' and seeks removal of the vessels from the waterway in one continuous activity. The contract will involve: Removal (Recovery/Salvage - recovery is preferable), Boat Valuation, Transport, Secure Storage (minimum 2 months), and Disposal (preferably achieved through boat sale at the best possible price). As the current situation attracts a number of risks including H&S, damage to property, and occupiers liability, B&NES intends to complete this activity at the earliest possible time. Unless it is safe, viable and legal to remove these boats any sooner, the scheduling expectation is that salvage & recoveries will take place in March/April 2025, and secure boat storage will follow until May/June 2025. In this time, boats will either be released to their owner (on settlement of all recovery costs), sold at auction for highest achievable price, or disposed of through responsible scrappage. Factors that should be considered and minimised wherever possible are: Ecological and environmental impacts of planned activities, Disturbance to the riverbed, Disruption to river users, and Disruption to local residents. Selection criteria for this work will be based on the separate MoSCoW document (available with the advert), coupled with costs.
