NTEC, FoE have been in the process of seeking a replacement servo-hydraulic load frame to work in conjunction with the NTEC building existing servo-hydraulic infrastructure and existing FoE equipment. I have approached 5 large suppliers across Europe of which only 2 (Instron and ZwickRoell) were prepared to offer a solution. Instron have visited our facility and designed a system around or building and the existing laboratory hardware. The FoE already have a substantial investment in Instron test equipment, as such ancillary modular components are available to be borrowed from around the faculty free of charge. These components are brand specific and are of a substantial cost. This equipment is/will be used for research and teaching; to engage an alternative supplier would incur a significant time cost and result in required changes to planned hands on teaching and research projects.
