St. Stephens church in Ipswich is an excellent location for holding small live music events. The building is located within a central retail and recreation area i.e. Arras Square - which is about to benefit from public realm investment. It is the smallest of Ipswich's redundant churches and lends itself to the intimacy essential for small music venues. It also creates challenges for the designers of facilities that will must be operated in a physically constrained environment. The listed status and value of the building as a heritage asset will require design which is sensitive to the historic setting. Listed building permission will be necessary for all changes affecting the fabric of the building, including all the works listed below plus some of the tenant-related work. St Stephens is one of Ipswich's principal historic buildings. The 15thC former church contains several original features such as the remains of a vaulted chantry chapel, wall monuments and a royal coat of arms.
