In November 2021, the Council commissioned a pilot programme for one year to start the implementation of the Wellcomm screening tool and provision of specialist advice, training and support with regard to early years speech, language and communication needs. Liverpool City Council is now looking to commission a Provider to build on the work of the pilot programme for a further two years. This work is overseen by Liverpool's Education Improvement Board and is a key action under priority 2 of Liverpool's Education Improvement Plan to 'ensure children and young people access a curriculum that allows them to acquire the necessary oracy, fluency and comprehension in reading'
