The Newcastle University Biosciences Institute is one of three research institutes established in 2019 following a restructure within the Faculty of Medical Sciences. Its members map across the biomedical research landscape. A number of major research projects are led from within the Institute including this investigation into genetic influences upon DNA methylation during development, ageing and disease of the human hip. This project funded by Versus Arthritis aims to investigate how a transcription factor (RUNX2) is regulated epigenetically in development and in later life, contributing to a range of traits and diseases including height, hip shape, facial morphology, osteoarthritis, and osteoporosis. The purpose of this tender process is to engage a supplier to run Illumina MethylationEPIC and Infinium Global Screening Arrays to generate both DNA methylation and genotype data on 360 supplied DNA samples.
