Natural England have received funding from the Somerset Rivers Authority to deliver a number of projects under a Strategic Approach to Mitigation scheme. One of the projects was to review and update the series of Water Level Management Plans that cover the Somerset Levels and Moors area, to ensure that all plans provide suitable water level management to maintain the SPA, Ramsar and SSSI features and Functionally Linked Land. The aims of this research report are: 1. To identify/describe the main drivers for change across the landscape and how it fits with strategic government/local legislation/policy/plans. 2. Explore the present / future pressures and challenges that water level management system will need to accommodate and overcome to enable nature recovery. 3. To carry out research into how Water Level Management should change to address future demands on the landscape. 4. To provide answers to key questions that will help inform the process of updating the system of Water Level Management in the Somerset Wetlands landscape area. 5.
