The UKs independent nuclear deterrent has existed for over 60 years to deter the most extreme threats to our national security and way of life, and that of our NATO Allies. UK nuclear policymakers will be confronted with an array of challenges in the coming decades, including from major nuclear armed states, emerging nuclear states and state-sponsored nuclear terrorism. The complexity and breadth of these challenges require the UK to consider how to adapt its approach to deterrence across the spectrum of conflict, including nuclear and strategic deterrence. This, in turn, requires an intellectual capability that can assist UK policymakers in understanding the new security dynamic and its implications for future deterrence requirements.
The MoD is committed to not only developing this expertise within Government, but through a thriving and robust civil society which can provide valuable research and challenge to Government on these issues. The Nuclear Deterrence Fund (NDF) is a £3.3m pilot programme which will run between FY24-27 to stimulate wider UK expertise in nuclear deterrence issues and to generate a research base to support nuclear deterrence policymaking.
The Nuclear Deterrence Fund is not currently accepting new applications.
Please monitor the Find a Tender Service for future opportunities.

2026 Tender - The Supply of Feed, Forage, Hay and Stable Requisites for MPS Stables
The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) is undertaking preliminary market engagement in advance of a forthcoming procurement for the supply and delivery of feed, forage, bedding and stable requisites for the Mounted Branch.
The Mounted Branch operates across three sites-Great Scotland Yard, Hyde Park and the Mounted Training Establishment (Imber Court)-supporting approximately 60 horses.
The requirement includes the provision of goods necessary for the day-to-day care and welfare of operational police horses, including:
Forage (e.g. hay and haylage)
Feed and nutritional supplements
Bedding materials
Stable requisites, including general equipment and consumables used in stable operations
Deliveries will be required across all sites, with higher volumes anticipated at Imber Court. The Authority is considering both regular weekly deliveries and reduced-frequency, higher-volume deliveries where operationally feasible.
This market engagement exercise is intended to gather information on supplier capability, delivery models, pricing structures and potential efficiencies to inform and shape the procurement approach.
The MPS is currently considering the use of the Competitive Flexible Procedure under the Procurement Act 2023 for the forthcoming procurement.
The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), in partnership with the London Borough of Hounslow (LBH) and the Greater London Authority (GLA), will be launching a competition to secure a development partner for the re-development of the MOD Feltham Barracks site. The DIO, LBH and GLA have recently entered into a Collaboration Agreement that promotes joint working between the parties to enable the successful redevelopment of the Site.
Originally a War Office depot, it became known for its military intelligence facilities. The site is earmarked for closure and the DIO are working the LBH and the GLA to bring forward the site for a mixed-tenure residential development.
The site is key for two national government priorities:
1. The site is part of a programme to deliver capital receipts for the operational UK Defence budget in line with government priorities for UK security.
2. The site is part of the DIO’s ‘Trailblazer’ portfolio intended to accelerate and maximise housing delivery in line with government priorities for housebuilding.
The DIO proposes to enter into a Development Agreement with a developer and transfer the site on satisfaction of conditions. The developer will be responsible for securing detailed planning consent; funding and delivering the scheme in accordance with a number of landowner parameters. The DIO will be responsible for providing vacant possession in accordance with an agreed programme.
Works Contractor for VEHICLE INSPECTION FACILITY UPGRADE PROGRAMME (VIFUP) FOR THE REGULAR ESTATE - UK1
The Authority is seeking to engage Works Contractors to deliver refurbishment and upgrade works as part of the Vehicle Inspection Facility Upgrade Programme (VIFUP), a programmatic initiative to upgrade vehicle inspection facilities across the Defence estate.
The overall programme is currently valued at approximately £110M. Delivery will utilise a combination of existing contracts (e.g. PFIs and Regional Delivery frameworks) alongside the procurement of new contracts for major refurbishment works. The estimated value of these major refurbishments is currently approximately £35M, with potential for further increase, and projects are geographically distributed across the UK.
The scope of works is expected to include the refurbishment, upgrade, and potential reconfiguration of existing vehicle inspection facilities, which may vary in scale and complexity across sites.
It is anticipated that works will be delivered using the NEC4 Engineering and Construction Contract (ECC), with further detail on contract options and mechanisms to be confirmed as the programme develops.
The Authority is currently considering procurement and packaging options for delivery of the works. Potential approaches include:
• Letting contracts on a project-specific basis;
• Establishing programme or framework arrangements; and
• Structuring delivery either on a site by site basis or through regional lots, reflecting the geographical spread of the programme.

This includes Contractor Logistic Support (CLS), software maintenance and updates to ensure continued compatibility with BCIP infrastructure, hardware and engineering support, and integrated logistics functions such as helpdesk services, obsolescence management, configuration control, and technical documentation. Additional requirements cover safety, security, quality management, training support, and ad hoc or post-design services, ensuring the system remains safe, operational, and aligned with evolving battlefield and security needs.

The requirement will be supplied through a Direct Award to CGI IT UK Ltd under the Procurement Act 2023, reflecting their role as the incumbent developer and support provider. Delivery will follow an Invitation to Negotiate (ITN), detailed evaluation, and negotiation process, resulting in a contract structured over four years with four optional one-year extensions.
