Yorkshire Water (YW) and Kelda are engaging the market with the intention of detailed wind studies at an initial 7 sites with the deployment of LiDAR for 6-12 months surveys, depending on initial 6 month wind data. Pending programme development, YW / Kelda may seek to expand to an estimated 25 sites for development.
The purpose of this Wind LiDAR Survey is to obtain accurate, high-resolution wind data for the analysis of wind characteristics at various heights above ground level. The survey will provide essential data to support Energy Yield Assessments (EYA), site feasibility studies, and wind resource modelling for a minimum of 6 months. Data will be required to be remotely monitored and optionally processed, with final analysis carried out using industry recognised software and aligned to best practice standards.

Yorkshire Water (YW) and Kelda are seeking to engage the market to discuss their planned deployment of new on-shore wind turbines and the repowering of some existing sites. Work done to date indicates deployments of 1-3 turbines at each location, with 25 sites under Consideration.
The deployments would be on YW operational land and would directly power the adjacent operational site, offsetting grid purchased power.
Early turbine identification, based on site constraints and available wind yields, suggests Kelda are looking to initially procure in the 500 kW - 3.45 MW range. This will result in a variance of turbine sizes from hub heights between 40 - 80 meters, and tip heights up to the region of 117 metres
The purpose of this notice is to open discussion with turbine manufacturers / suppliers to understand;
- Equipment / turbines availability;
- Indicative lead times for supply;
- Indicative pricing, both capex and opex;
- Indicative commercial terms; and
- After sales maintenance provision.
These are non-conclusive and are likely to change as development progresses.
YW and Kelda are open to both new and refurbished turbines via direct purchases from OEMs, broker facilitated procurement and framework agreements.

Yorkshire Water is looking to establish a partnership with REGO (Renewable energy guarantee of origin) backed, location based, renewable energy suppliers to procure behind the meter renewable energy via direct wire to energise its operational assets.
The renewable energy schemes can be energised already, or those that are proposed future development nearby YWs sites. The consumption of renewable energy is a key component of YWs route map to 40% location based renewable energy by 2030 - this framework will support our carbon reduction ambitions, as well as increase operational efficiency, and de-risk energy supply: the benefits of which can be passed to our customers.
Yorkshire Water has thousands of operational assets across Yorkshire which are largely powered by energy from grid network providers. Currently ca.18% of Yorkshire Waters energy consumption is self-generated through REGO backed, location based renewable energy.
A potential future tender provides an opportunity for suppliers to lay a direct power connection from private energy providers' renewable energy assets to Yorkshire Water sites in close proximity. The scope of this sourcing activity is to realise opportunities at a local level, rather than securing a renewable energy supply for the entire region. The core principle of this arrangement is that there is a mutual commercial benefit in contracting directly with a private supplier for the supply of electricity; YW would benefit from reduced energy importing costs, whilst the supplier would benefit from long term power purchase agreements (PPAs).
Yorkshire Water currently is working on a number of behind the meter, direct wire solutions including both third party owned and YW owned generation. This includes, Wind, Solar, Hydro, CHP and EfW connections.
YW is open to DBFOM (Design, Build, finance, operate, maintain) solutions where either a fixed or flexible PPA tariff could then be agreed at an agreeable rate for both parties. Alternatively, YW are seeking connections to existing generating programmes.
