NOTE: This notice was updated on 14 December 2023 for the following reason: The date of tender returns has been amended to 26th January at am(Rickmansworth Aquadrome Local Nature Reserve is a 41-hectare Green Flag award winning green space to the south of Rickmansworth town centre, extremely well-used for outdoor recreation, valued by the local community and rich in wildlife. It comprises two lakes, Bury Lake to the west and Batchworth Lake to the east, along with surrounding areas of open grassland and wet woodland. It is bounded to the north and east by the river Colne, to the south by the Grand Union Canal and to the west by Stockers Lake Local Nature Reserve.
The large majority of the Aquadrome, with the exception of an area around the café and car park, is in Flood Zone 3. Parts of the site regularly become inaccessible due to flooding during the winter. This project aims to mitigate the impact of flooding on the site where possible and to identify options for access and habitat improvements which can be delivered without increasing local flood risk. The main objectives of the project are to:
Identify and assess options to minimise overland flow from Bury Lake into Stockers Lake across a causeway path (Rickmansworth Footpath 65), including the section of Footpath 65 north of the two lakes.
Improve understanding of the function of the ditch network and identify and assess options to reduce flood risk on the site through improved ditch maintenance.
Conduct a feasibility study and options appraisal for a habitat enhancement scheme on the river Colne through the land owned by Three Rivers District Council as shown on the map, including consideration of bank reinforcement where required.
Identify and assess options for a habitat enhancement scheme on Batchworth and Bury Lakes, including consideration of bank reinforcement where required.
The primary outcome of the project will be outline designs for the preferred options under each objective.)

NOTE: This notice was updated on 18 October 2024 for the following reason: Please note - SME's are welcome to apply to participate(The Council is seeking expressions of interest for a Contractor to manage and deliver the planned improvement works to 20 Fishing Swims situated on Batchworth Lake within Rickmansworth Aquadrome.
The Council is seeking a Contractor to carry out all works within each swim. Each swim differs in size and requirements. The works include replacing 8 fishing platforms, resurfacing and levelling the swims, edging, waterside improvements and erosion control. The scope of works includes the replacement of 8 fishing platforms of varying sizes, re surfacing of all 20 swims in crushed granite, levelling, edging, improved erosion control and signage The contractor shall be responsible for the design, supply and implementation of these works.
