D1206 AFC Structural Containment - Reserved to Caithness Background The D1206 active cell structure has installed primary/secondary filtration filters within a structure at one end called the Active Filter Change (AFC). The AFC requires a robust extension containment that will allow replacement and deployment of the new filter change robot and other equipment to support filter change operations. The currently installed filter change robot has failed and is non-functioning and the current set of filters require to be changed due to the extended period they have been in service and any future potential degradation if left unattended. Once the filters have been changed, decommissioning within the cells can commence. The containment described in this document is only required to support the replacement of the robot and associated tasks. Once the robot is operational the containment will be removed. Scope of the Contract The scope of work defining the contract boundary is to take the concept/scheme design information supplied and develop a detailed design to enable manufacture and testing of a robust structural containment in accordance with technical procurement specification D1206-P002-TPS(22)-001 Issue 1. The detailed design of the structural containment must consider the scheme design information contained in the User Specification/Basis of Design document D1206-P002-BoD(22)-001 and incorporate the design requirements as listed in the Scheme Design Technical Requirements Document (D1206-P002- TRD(22)01) Issue 2. The containment manufacture and testing must demonstrate the design intent has been achieved in accordance with the detailed design requirements. The scope of the contract is to complete the detailed design and to manufacture, test and deliver to site a robust structural containment to enable active operations.

Dounreay has a series of zinc bromide windows, cell 10 in D2001 has 6. Dounreay carried out an optioneering study in 2023 that determined window 22 in cell 10 would be drained of zinc bromide and filled with grout. The objective of the contract is for the Contractor to provide Dounreay with a mock-up of Window 22 (3 off) and provide a trialling area at their premises. All grout filling trials will be undertaken by Dounreay. To meet this objective the Contractor must undertake the following activities. 1. Project Management 2. Submission of QA documentation 3. Procurement and Fabrication of Mock-Up 4. Preparation of Leak Test Procedures and Risk Assessments 5. Undertaking of Leak Test Programme 6. Preparation of Leak Test Report 7. Employ a third part to carryout diamond wire cutting of the grout blocks 2.1.5 Supply of Trialling Space The Contractor must supply Dounreay with a space for carrying out grout filling trials. The grout will be delivered by a grout pump, supplied by Dounreay, which shall require a water supply. Magnox Limited requires a Contractor to undertake the Low Level Waste (LLW) Pits Resurfacing and Provision of Cover Building. The Scope of Work necessary to supply civil engineering and steelworks for Dounreay will be in accordance with the information contained within the Invitation to Tender. This cover building will rest upon existing steel columns and concrete foundations. This consists of a fin drain, located adjacent to the cover building. - Re-profiling of all surfaces to Pits 3 and 4. There is a Dounreay Site requirement to carry out the removal of loose redundant Ammonia Tank Farm Plinths civil waste blocks and formation of 2-off new civil support plinths for new D1208 Fire Escape Staircases / Walkways to support Building D1208 designed system modifications. There is also a requirement to carry out the demolition of the existing D1208 East Fire Escape Walkway and Staircases and the subsequent installation of a new seismically qualified D1208 East Fire Escape Staircases / Walkways in Support of D1208 ADU Floc Immobilisation Project.

Dounreay has a requirement to upgrade the D1203 Ventilation Systems to ensure that they are safe, compliant, and reliable to support upcoming decommissioning activities. The revised ventilation system will also provide risk mitigation against a future release of radiological contamination from the existing ventilation header ducts in the D1203 roof void. The Employer requires the Contractor to procure, construct, manufacture, inspect, test, deliver, install, and set to work the required upgrades to the D1203 ventilation system as specified with the detail design package produced by the Employer. The Contractor shall also remove and apply containment features to potentially contaminated ductwork sections made redundant by these works and transport them to an agreed laydown area. Some items of key plant will be procured in advance by the Employer, and free-issued to the Contractor for installation and setting to work. Preparatory groundwork, building penetrations and installation of transition spools will also be carried out in advance by the Employer. This includes the provision of the Air Handling Unit (AHU) foundation, ductwork support stanchion foundations, duct and pipe penetrations and sleeves through the D1203 building external fabric and formation of the new plantroom link corridor opening in the west wall of the D1209 corridor following removal of cladding by the Contractor.
