In 2015 the Trust was awarded the contract to deliver Paediatric and Adult Special Care Services in Cheshire West, Chester and Wirral and has continued to deliver this service to the present day.
The Trust has commissioned Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (BCHFT) to deliver the service in Cheshire West and Chester since the start of the contract.
NHS Cheshire and Merseyside have issued a Personal Dental Services Agreement Variation Notice to amend Clause 16, contract end date from 31st March 2024 to 31st March 2025.
The Trust therefore intends to continue subcontracting arrangement with BCHFT to enable the delivery of the contract in Cheshire West and Cheshire.

The Weight Management Service requires a psychological therapist who provides support to patients who are registered with the service in the form of CBT to meet the Nice Guidance criteria for a tier 3 service. Audit has evidenced the benefit of this service to patients in terms of learning, weight loss, eating and activity habits and recognising triggers. Patients felt motivated to lose weight and were able to identify strategies, tools, and techniques to manage lapses.
When the Weight Management Service started, local NHS organisations were approached to provide cover through an SLA. Unfortunately, this was not possible to arrange because they were unable to offer any hours. The Bariatric Service had previously worked with Beacon to provide psychological support. The Bariatric Service had also worked with another trust, but this was not so successful and experienced several issues. The Weight Management Service had not recruited to this role because the service was initially for 12 months. As the role is part time it would be difficult to recruit to internally and the Trust does not have the ability to provide the clinical supervision for this post as it is not a mental health service provider. NICE Guidance advises that the psychological therapist input must have an interest in obesity.

Provision of Consultant Cardiologist to provide Community Cardiology Outpatients Model, Clinical Leadership and support service developments. This is a one year contract with option to extend for a further period of 12 months

The service has been using E-logica for many years. The service has expanded to perform over 4000 tests per year, enabling the Community Cardiology Service to meet the increasing demand.
The Community Trust has invested in Echocardiogram machines through the capital program to ensure the sustainability of the service and the ability to meet the conditions set in the Header Contract.
We receive an exceptional quality service from E-Logica, alternatives are directly employing cardiac physiologists or awarding to another supplier. Neither option would not be cost effective due to the cost of employment and alternative supplier costs demonstrated Key Criterion 2.
There is national shortage of these clinical professionals and recruitment would carry a significant risk to service provision due to leave/vacancy similar to the issues at other NHS providers (inc. WUTH) resulting in unacceptable waiting times. Recruitment risk and resource availability is carried by the supplier.
Additionally clinical supervision would not be available within WCHC, therefore requiring externally sourced supervision which would result in additional costs.
