To capture the long term time-lapse photography for 3no. upcoming projects to be undertaken at the University of Salford:-
1. Newton Building Engineering & Environment ICZ new build
2. Second Floor Cockcroft Laboratory redevelopment
3. Library redevelopment project final phase
The Newton redevelopment lasts for 20 months. The Cockcroft laboratory project will last 4 months whilst the Library project will last 6 months. There will be a gap of approximately 8 weeks between the end of the Cockcroft Project and the commencement of the Library project so cameras can be de-rigged and set up in the Library project. We have not got a start date for the Newton project yet. The Cockcroft project is due to start on site on the 20th February with the initial strip out. The Library is due to start on the 12th June.
Your proposal should include for 10 cameras permanently deployed across the projects. 6 external cameras will be used to record the progress of the construction of the New Engineering & Environment ICZ new build whilst 4 can be used internally to record the time-lapse of the Cockcroft Laboratory and then moved to the Library.
You will be responsible for identifying camera positions and for arranging access to survey for finalising mounted hardware and positions.
Your quotation must include for monthly inspections of the cameras including the fixings to ensure there are no risks to health and safety. During these maintenance inspections an allowance should be made in the quotation to take supplementary photographs and video if required at key project milestones.
The university will require the release on a monthly basis of the time-lapse information so it can be used to update the University Community on the progress of the projects.

The Library at the University of Salford has run a laptop loan service for its students since 2010. The lockers provide secure storage as well as battery charging.
Initially this was run via a staff desk with lockers manually operated by staff. In 2012 the lockers were fitted with RFID locks and students have since been able to issue and return the laptops themselves by swiping their university ID card.
Rather than connecting to our Library Management System our existing locker system came with its own software for managing laptop loans. There are a number of issues with this.
i. The software isn't fit for purpose. It was designed for use in Gyms or swimming pools and as such it's a locker management system rather than a system for managing the contents of lockers. Although it allocates a locker to an individual it has no knowledge of whether the contents of the locker (in this case a laptop) are either present or absent at any stage of the process.
ii. The software is adequate for keeping track of who has a locker at the present moment (which is about all you need in a gym) however it is unable to provide adequate reporting of past locker use by individuals (important for trying to track down missing equipment or establishing when equipment was damaged) or to provide high level management information about locker use (this is a very well used service, however we are only able to prove that by spending hours exporting and re-processing the inadequate data provided by the software).
iii. Libraries run on Library Management Systems (LMS) - and one of the things an LMS is very good at is keeping track of physical stock. Even if the existing software was adequate it would still be the case that it was duplicating something we already have. At present there is an additional staff overhead taken up with the management of the server, setting up and managing a real time data feed, troubleshooting issues with individual user accounts, creating reports, creating and training administrators etc.
We are currently looking to expand the service, taking it into areas without a continuous staff presence, this means that the ability to track usage accurately is now a priority.

The University already has a strong brand identity for students, but this is currently not utilised to attract new colleague talent and skills to the University. The University has a great careers offer for potential new employees, and a People Plan, but it's not shouting about it!
As part of the development of our Employer Brand, we would also be looking to develop a range of assets and brand content to help support our recruitment and build brand awareness.

The MC218 facility which is extensively used across undergraduate and postgraduate teaching is using out of date software, and missing hardware pieces which would give it parity with industry and with our own dubbing theatre (also housed in MCUK).
The software required includes the industry standard convolution package, Altiverb, the Sonnox bundle (both already in the dubbing theatre but not in the labs), Oeksound Soothe 2, and upgrading our Izotope packages as they are now several years out of date.
Hardware required includes portable audio and video recorders, and additional microphones as the current provision available in the
MCUK stores is not enough for the students to carry out industry standard work. This will support tighter integration with the immediate industry neighbours and give confidence to students seeking work placements etc.
