The tender is for supply of Nanoindenter or picoindenter to fit inside our Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM model: Tescan Mira 3 with GM chamber). This will allow users to map surface mechanical and tribological properties of materials and correlate them to structural, morphological and chemical properties. The Northumbria University (NU) Scanning Electron Microscope Picomechanical Indenter (NU-Pico) will provide a state-of-the-art regional facility for high-speed simultaneous characterisation of the nanomechanical, morphological and chemical properties of thin film coatings, surfaces and nanomaterials. NU-Pico will be the first SEM nanoindenter in the northeast of England and will support unprecedented recent growth in biomaterials, renewable energy materials, civil engineering materials and smart materials and surfaces research at NU and provide a game-changing nanomechanical facility for the region and beyond. NU-Pico must enable a drastic expansion on our current nano-tribomechanical testing capability and unlock a range of complimentary material characterisation techniques, critical for rapid prototyping of novel materials for cutting edge applications. The modular and user-friendly nature of NU-Pico, together with its enhanced capability, must make it useful for a much larger user base, including early career researchers, PhD students, research technical professionals and industry users, from wider interdisciplinary research areas.

The Legal Practice Course (LPC) route to qualification as a solicitor is being phased out and a new, centrally set and assessed, examination called the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) has been introduced. From academic year 2025/26, Northumbria University will be delivering SQE1 training to students on three programmes; the final year of the undergraduate MLAW, the new postgraduate LL.M. Professional Legal Practice and on the Solicitor Higher Apprentice Programme. While students must sit the SQE assessments externally, our programmes are designed to prepare them for those assessments as well as giving them separate qualifications. We are looking for a supplier to work with us to provide these services.

This Agreement relates to the provision of high-quality, tailored Non-Medical Helper (NMH) and Support Worker services to disabled students at Northumbria University, in line with the latest (July 2024) NMH Guidance issued by Student Finance England (SFE) and the Department for Education (DfE). The university is seeking to procure a micro compounder, injection moulder, and platen press to support advanced research into novel nanocomposites-materials that combine nanoscale fillers with polymer matrices to achieve enhanced physical properties. These tools are essential for enabling precise and flexible sample preparation, which is critical for investigating mechanical, thermal, and structural characteristics of newly developed materials. - The micro compounder must be capable of processing very small quantities of polymers and additives, ideal for R&D involving expensive or rare substances. - The injection moulder should allow for the creation of standardised test specimens with tight control over temperature, pressure, and mould geometry. - The platen press must offer programmable pressure and heat settings to form composite sheets or layered samples. The machines will be used in conjunction with each other and must demonstrate their inter-compatibility.
