The University of Leicester, School of Chemistry, is expanding its capabilities for studying the dynamics of single biomolecules. To support this work, funding has been secured from BBSRC to procure a highly specialised instrument: the C-Trap Dymo 400 Optical Tweezers-Fluorescence Microscope, manufactured by Lumicks B.V.. This instrument integrates cutting-edge optical trapping, confocal fluorescence microscopy, and laminar flow microfluidics into a single, coherent system.
The C-Trap® Dymo 400 will be installed at the University to support high-precision, realtime studies of molecular interactions, particularly in areas involving DNA-protein complexes, RNA structures, ubiquitin structures and cytoskeletal filament dynamics. It includes multi-colour confocal fluorescence (488, 561, 638 nm), dual force detection (x,y), short tether capabilities, microfluidics, and full system integration with proprietary Bluelake software, all required to maintain the scientific edge of our ongoing biophysical and molecular biology research.

The University is seeking to enter into a Multi-Contractor Framework Agreement (Agreement) for the provision of Building Fabric Maintenance and Minor Building Works (Works) across its campus network. Works may comprise new buildings, extensions to existing buildings, conversion/refurbishment of existing buildings, works to ensure compliance with various legislative requirements, e.g. legionella, fire safety, DDA, mechanical and electrical engineering works and enabling works in advance of major capital works projects. This Agreement is a mechanism for engaging Main Contractors (Contractors) to deliver the range of Projects as required, the Contractors will be required to deliver the full Project which may include the needs for sub-contracting for mechanical, electrical, fit-out, painting and decorating, flooring as required. For the purposes of the Agreement, Works are defined as any Project with a construction price of between £10,000 and £2,500,000 net of VAT.

The University requires competent contractors to carry out annual fire door inspections to all fire doors across the estate, in all properties. Approximately 15,000 fire doors are to be inspected and reported on in accordance with the Fire Door Maintenance Checklist. It is the University’s intention to appoint three suppliers to the framework agreement, each company will receive orders to inspect a minimum of 4,000 doors each year. The Body Donation Programme takes place at the University of Leicester Medical School. Members of the public (referred to as ‘bequests’ in this document), bequeath their bodies for anatomical examination, and are a valuable teaching source for teaching the structure and function of the human body to medical students, and other healthcare professionals. The Human Tissue Authority (HTA) regulates the use of human bodies within the legal framework set out in the Human Tissue Act (2004). The University of Leicester is licensed by the Human Tissue Authority. The University has a commercial archaeological Unit embedded in the School of Archaelogy and Ancient History, called University Leicester Archaeological Services (ULAS). ULAS offer a comprehensive, integrated service for all types of archaeological and heritage projects.
