Thames Water, in partnership with the other UK water companies and Ofwat, are looking to develop an innovative 'no dig pipe leak repair technology' to fix leaking pipes without the need to dig a hole Thames Water endeavour to engage an interested delivery partner(s) to develop their initial idea through to designing and building a conceptual model and prototype for potential wider adoption of the technology in the UK Water Sector. Solving this problem will present the successful organisation with an opportunity to monetise a solution to a problem costing the UK and international water companies millions of pounds each year as well the cost and disruption of road works. The solution can be tested with the active participation, cooperation and expertise of Thames Water on existing assets and funding will also be provided to develop and tailor the solution to the water industry.

The laboratory at Thames Water is critical for meeting our regulatory and operational requirements. It encompasses a wide range of activities, including the provision of assurance for the services we deliver to our customers, the community and the environment, all while maintaining UKAS accreditation. The Thames Water laboratory analyses over half a million samples and generates almost three million results per annum. The current laboratory facility is approaching the end of its service life and Thames Water are considering a replacement within the next asset management period (AMP), which spans 2025-2030. Combined with a growing demand for laboratory services, operational insights and regulatory requirements there is a generational opportunity to establish a centre of excellence for a future laboratory capability, integrating cutting-edge systems, skilled personnel, and streamlined processes. This initiative aims to fortify our operational resilience, enhance efficiency, and sustain the delivery of life's essential service. Thames Water is currently considering a range of options for the delivery of a new capability. These range from full ownership and operational responsibilities, to leasing and operating a facility. At present, Thames Water does not envisage a fully outsourced model but are open to understand what opportunities exist across the spectrum of potential delivery models. Thames Water has planned for 570km to be delivered during AMP8 (with a further 1,000km in AMP9). The intention is to split this between water quality driven mains rehab (12km), burst driven mains rehab (108km) and whole DMA replacement (380km). This framework is intended to compliment the existing framework by providing supplementary support in addressing the evolving demands of the current framework in the next AMP and going forward. The aim of the AMP8 Distribution Mains Renewal Programme is to replace the pipework (excluding new polyethylene) within the worst performing DMAs so that the amount of leakage in each of those areas is reduced. The business drivers for the schemes are: • Network resilience • Leakage reduction • Reduce risk of mains failure and customers interruptions • Improving C-Mex measure The objective of the Distribution Mains Renewal Programme is the structural renewal of targeted water distribution mains and all associated apparatus in the network to reduce bursts and leakage. Renewal of the water mains network shall include but not be limited to: • Optimisation, structural replacement or relining of distribution water mains within DMAs and bounded by district meters and the District Boundary Valves. • Structural replacement of all service connections from the distribution mains to customer boundaries, including installation of a suitable boundary box. • Replacement of all apparatus connected to the network including valves, hydrants, disinfection points, air valves, etc. • Securing abandoned mains by cutting and capping. Removing surface covers, marker posts and plates of abandoned washouts, hydrants, and valves etc. so that only covers relating to live apparatus remain.

Thames Water wishes to award a number of framework agreements to suppliers capable of project design, building renovations, remedial works and/or the provision and maintenance of welfare cabins. Due to the varying age of buildings and structures within the Thames Water estate (over 400 sites across the TW supply area), there is need to carry out renovation and remedial works in order to ensure they remain safe and fit for purpose. The Framework Agreements will cover the following works: Consultancy (Project Design), Internal & External Works to operational and corporate buildings (London area), Internal & External Works to operational and corporate buildings (Thames Valley and Home Counties), Roofing, Asbestos Consulting, Asbestos Treatment and Welfare Cabins. The purpose of the event is to inform interested parties of the current proposals to deliver several reservoirs as part of the Strategic Resource Options (SROs) programme, including the Southeast Strategic Reservoir Option (SESRO), a new raw water storage reservoir in Oxfordshire - helping to build a resilient future in the long term.
