RBG Kew wishes to appoint a supplier to extract whole genomic DNA from 400 oak tree (Quercus robur) leaf samples and individually sequence their DNA to the maximum coverage possible within the budget. Quercus robur has a genome size of 750 Mbp. Each sample will be provided by RBG Kew in an individually labelled 2ml Eppendorf tube, containing approximately 200mg of dried leaf material (larger quantities may be provided upon request). We will also send 20 spare samples in case some are hard to extract DNA from. From Saturday 1st-Sunday 16th April 2023 RBG Kew will run our popular Easter family programme. This year, we have licenced content from the very popular children's book Superworm written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler to theme the festival around. Equipment will need to be handheld or can be mounted on vehicles (cars, buggies, and drones). This kit will allow the rapid mapping of landscapes and vegetation structure, essential for carbon accounting and to quantify NbS.
