EdTech Hub Call for Concept Notes: Implementation research in new thematic areas
EdTech Hub is a global non-profit research partnership supported by the UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office, the World Bank, the Gates Foundation, UNICEF, Canada's International Development Research Centre, and others. Our goal is to empower people making decisions about technology in education in LMICs. Technology has the potential to help address the global learning crisis, but that potential is not being realised. Policy makers and other decision makers face an overwhelming choice of technology solutions, are unclear on what works and what doesn't and are forced to make decisions based on low- or no-evidence. Further information about the Hub is available at https://edtechhub.org/
To further expand available evidence on the use of EdTech to support the most marginalised, the Hub will be launching a round of implementation research partnerships focusing on new thematic areas. These areas include: Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND), education in emergencies, and education resilience against climate change.
Implementation research examines how interventions-policies, programs, or practices-are carried into effect. While established in fields like healthcare and poverty alleviation, it remains underexplored in EdTech, particularly in LMICs. This approach generates evidence in real-time, enhances scalability, and prioritizes sustainability, distinguishing itself from evaluation or design-based research.
As EdTech Hub Asia Lead you will draw on your significant expertise in education and EdTech in Asia to support government and other partners in the region to improve learning outcomes and strengthen systems..
You will oversee regional and country leads and specialist network members to provide expert guidance to governments, donor partners, and education stakeholders regarding leveraging evidence and best practice to effectively deploy EdTech aligned with the Ministry of Education's vision for improving learning outcomes through technology.
EdTech Hub is seeking applicants with strong stakeholder management skills and deep expertise in developing, implementing and/or advising on education policies and programmes in Asia. EdTech Hub is supported by multiple donors in Asia, and you will need to play a key role in these various inter-related projects and donor relationships.
Responsibilities
We are looking for an excellent candidate to deliver across the following workstreams:
Strategy Implementation: Collaborate with regional and country leads to execute strategies for each country/region, ensuring that EdTech Hub plans align with key donor objectives.
Relationship and Partnership Management: Work with regional and country leads to build and maintain strategic partnerships with major in-country donors and delivery partners. You will represent EdTech Hub with partners and at events.
Evidence Generation and Uptake: You will not just oversee but directly contribute to evidence-based guidance given to partners. You will ensure consistency across all EdTech Hub's Asia portfolio aspects, including research studies and technical assistance. This includes working with the regional and country leads to manage relationships with government counterparts and stakeholders to ensure the success of EdTech Hub's portfolio in Asia.
Technical Assistance & Management: Respond promptly to the respective partners' needs through direct technical assistance and engagement with other work streams within EdTech Hub (such as the Helpdesk and research team).
Co-chair country leadership group: With the Africa Lead, chair the country leadership group of regional and country leads, bringing cohesion, ensuring high quality, and making connections.
