Bolsover Back Hills Steps & Rail Repairs. Bolsover Back Hills Nature Walk is situated on the embankment of the Hill side that runs parallel with High Street, Bolsover S44 6HF and is immediately accessed by "Surprise View" that is located at the top of Cotton Street. The steps are approximately 15 years old, while some repairs have been carried out over the last few years due to the continued deterioration, it is now deemed that repairs would be so invasive that complete replacement with more permanent materials would be the way forward to increase longevity. Some of the handrails have been stolen and been replaced in the past and a similar repair would be acceptable to repair. The steps are now almost washed or rotten away deeming them unsafe and it is the intention to replace the existing treads and risers that are constructed out of timber & road stone (concrete screed) be replaced with either cast concrete steps in situe or concrete units to form treads and risers for the new steps. This information and schedule of works is to be read in conjunction with the photographs attached and it is import that anyone tendering for the project, visits site to see the works required and the restrictions regards delivering materials to the site. The original handrails are stainless steel and repairs have been carried out by means of an over collar sleeve with a welded pin detail drilled and fixed with an anti-vandal locking nut, in mild steel and either galvanised or fully coated in primer & Galva Royd galvanising paint. Old Bolsover Town Council will advise of a suitable position for a skip location to remove waste timber etc from the steps. The handrails can be repaired by "on site welding" but please note, the original rails are Stainless Steel and difficult to weld stainless steel due to location. To apply complete the attached tender document and return to Old Bolsover Town Council, Town Hall, Cotton Street, Bolsover, S44 6HA or email to townclerk@oldbolsovertowncouncil.gov.uk

To complete a clean and maintenance to the Grade II listed memorial. The proposed cleaning method has been selected based on a detailed analysis of the memorial's materials and the types of soiling present. The cleaning will involve Low-pressure Steam Cleaning (DOFF style) using the 150 degree temperature of the steam to remove soiling, not high pressure, so no damage to the stone (removes algae, organic growth, paint etc). This method is chemical free and environmentally friendly, non-toxic and non-hazardous, causing no damage to the surface being cleaned. Additional compounds may be used to aid cleaning. Historic England and War Memorials Trust, have authorised this method of cleaning previously, depending upon the cleaning requirements. All pointing required on the memorial is undertaken using Lime Mortar, this is also usually supported by both Historic England and War Memorials Trust. The proposed cleaning is designed to have minimal impact on the heritage values of the memorial: • Respect for Original Materials: Careful selection of cleaning methods ensures no harm to the original stonework and inscriptions. • Reversibility: The cleaning process is non-invasive and reversible, adhering to best practices in heritage conservation. • Enhanced Understanding: By cleaning the memorial, the inscriptions and details will be more legible, enhancing public understanding and appreciation of the memorial's significance. To mitigate any potential negative impacts, the following measures will be implemented: • Detailed Documentation: Photographic and written records of the memorial's condition before, during, and after cleaning. • Monitoring: Regular monitoring of the memorial post-cleaning to assess any long-term effects and address any issues promptly. • Public Communication: Informing the community about the cleaning process and its importance to ensure public support and understanding. • Conservation Guidelines: The work will be undertaken following conservation guidelines and best practices.
