The Eye Casualty Follow Up Service will be offered to all emergency ophthalmology patients where initial assessment has been completed by Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust that meet the clinical criteria, and choose to be followed up in a local optometry practise
This tender is seeking a Sub-Contractor to deliver the following:
Provide safe emergency eye care follow up appointments in community based optometric practices by community optometrists. Supported by direct access to and oversight from secondary care clinicians.
Release capacity within the Eye Casualty department by reducing follow up demand to support reducing current long wait backlog. This shall be achieved by reducing unnecessary attendances to the Eye Casualty department for patients while maintaining or improving patient experience.
Improve access to local timely care for patients with urgent ocular presentations, reducing the need to travel to the hospital.
Improve the knowledge and skills of community optometrists to enable improved first-time emergency care through providing opportunities to achieve an accredited Emergency Ophthalmology certification (Ophthalmic Combined Clinical Competency Framework which is accredited and supported by Health Education England) and independent prescribing.
Reduce the expected burden on the rest of primary care (GP practices) and reduce pressures on ophthalmology departments within secondary care.
Increase the punctuality of appointments for patients through separation of emergency and follow up activity.
Give patients the opportunity to be seen by the right person at the right time.
Enable care closer to home.
The contract duration will run from 10th July 2023 for a four year period.

The Supplier is required to provide routine adult haemodialysis services from a satellite facility at Lings Bar Hospital in Gamston, Nottingham.
This is to support the Nottingham University Hospitals Renal and Transplant Unit, which is a major regional centre for the provision of renal therapy healthcare services. The overall renal service (The "Renal Unit") includes two inpatient wards, a dedicated outpatient department, and dialysis facilities based at the Nottingham City Hospital Campus, plus NUH-delivered satellite facilities in Kings Mill Hospitals, Ilkeston Community Hospital, and the facility at Lings Bar Hospital (for which Tenders are invited here).
Bidders will be required to attend (via MS Teams) a clinical presentation as part of the tender process, which will be held on Friday 19th May 2023 between 10-11am. The Renal team will provide a high-level overview of the clinical services required to be delivered, and an outline of the wider renal services provided at NUH. This will be a mandatory requirement that all interested bidders must attend. Failure to attend the presentation will mean that bidders will not be able to bid for this opportunity.
