Northern Trains Limited is establishing a Framework for the provision of professional design and project management services to support the delivery of its programme of capital and maintenance works.
Northern Trains Limited (NTL) will be tendering for Property Management Services to its portfolio of ~500 properties (stations and other buildings) across its operating area of the North of England, as a single lot. NTL will, at the same time, be tendering for Property Leasing Services to its portfolio of ~475 stations, again across its operating area of the North of England. However, the Property Leasing Services will be offered in six geographical lots, to allow for regional expertise: Northwest, Southwest, Greater Manchester, North and West Yorkshire, and Southeast. It is anticipated that this tender will be published in early June 2023.
In preparation for NWR led infrastructure improvements across the North of England any rolling stock that operates on the network will need to be fitted with corresponding compatible on-board ETCS equipment, Northern intends to award a contract for the design, supply and fitment of ETCS equipment and its associated materials, maintenance and technical service for its Class 195 & 331 trains.
Northern is intending to initiate a future procurement process for the provision of alternative transport services (Rail Replacement) across its operating network.
The scope of the procurement will include, but not be limited to:
Pre-planned rail replacement transport services;
Emergency rail replacement transport services.
Co-ordination services.
Suppliers will be expected to demonstrate proven expertise in the delivery of alterative transport services in the rail environment, the ability to deliver high-quality and reliable services, and the flexibility to support varying operational requirements.

Northern wishes to appoint a GRIP 5-8 contractor to undertake the detail design, sourcing and installation of combined toilet/baby change facilities (‘build within existing building’ or ‘installation of standalone Pods’) at 69 of its stations portfolio:• 5 x Stations with installation in existing building;• 26 x PODs located on a platform;• 38 x PODs located off the platform (carpark area / concourse area).The successful supplier will be required to source, from their selected manufacturer, the Pods to conform with Northern’s detailed specification and then provide installation on site.Support Services to this project are being provided by Vextrix.Project budget is approximately £1.5m and these works are to be delivered in financial years 2022/23 – 2023/24.This below UCR threshold tender will be published around the end of July 2022.
NTL is looking to appoint a Lead Designer for the development GRIP 4 Stages, GRIP 5-8 Tender & GRIP 5-8 Support for the delivery of an access for all (AfA) lifts scheme at Pontefract & Monkhill. This will consist of a new replacement Beacon footbridge with no roof linking platform with 1 & 2 with new stairs and lifts. The GRIP 3 estimate for this scheme of work is £3.8m.
