The project is to reconfigure the current Battle Gallery which is a permanent gallery at the National Army Museum. Whilst many elements of the existing gallery are to be utilised in the new display, there is a requirement for new construction work, including building new walls, the removal and relocation of some plinths, interactives and making good of existing areas before decoration. The Museum is purchasing five new display cases, manufactured by an external company, that the builder will need to interface with and provide enabling works for. The works will also include the strip out of the current Society Gallery, the removal, packing and transport to an offsite address in Stevenage of a number of empty display cases and Miniclimas. The relocation and protection of display items that will be remaining in the gallery. Removal of internal walls and set works and making good of all external gallery walls after works have been completed. The current Society and Battle gallery are adjacent. NAM wishes to appoint a suitably qualified contractor to undertake these works as outlined in the attached documents and priced in accordance with Annex E - Template for Pricing, which should be read in conjunction with all the design drawings in Annex F (separate cover). The contractor is responsible for confirming their own measurements from site and producing As Build drawings for sign off by the Client. A site visit is essential to understand the full scope of the project.

The new gallery will explore the large-scale European wars, it will be enlarged, incorporate five new display cases as well as utilising some existing cases. The Museum wishes to employ a suitably qualified and experienced mount maker to assist in the installation of the gallery, in particular, the manufacture and positioning mounts for the display items. There will be many objects in the gallery requiring mounts to be made from scratch and a number of objects that are re-using existing mounts these have been denoted on Annex A - Mount List. At this stage, the layouts of case is still being finalised, but, the Museum is asking tenderers to provide a price for mounts fixed at the base of the case and mounts fixed to the back of the cases. This will give the Museum the choice between the two display methods - please refer to mount type field on Annex A. Final case layouts will be available from 20th July and will be sent to the successful tenderer. In the costs, the mount maker will also need to account for measuring of objects at our Stevenage store and Chelsea Museum, both prior to making the mounts and after making to ensure they fit the objects seamlessly. The mount maker should also allow for attendance on site for around 6 weeks to fit the mounts on site during the installation of objects phase as noted in para 4. Programme below, of this document. They will work alongside the Museum's team of conservators and collections staff. The fee is in the region of £42,000 inclusive.

The NAM wishes to appoint a design company, to create the design for the Army at Home Gallery from the concept stage to final dimensioned As Built drawings to construct from. The successful tenderer will be responsible for not only the look and feel of the exhibition, but also any 3D structural elements and exhibition furniture, interactives and operational elements. The designer will also be responsible for 2D graphi identity from concept to installation. The NAM has display cases which we would like to re-utilise to keep costs down, which need to be resited in new walls. The design should have a logical visitor flow that allows for visitors to understand the chronology within the themes. All structural elements and exhibition furniture must be compliant with CDM regulations and H&S guidelines. Materials utilised need to have passed Oddy testing and be suitable for use with historic artefacts and agreed with NAM in advance. Design solutions for the display of objects must be approved by the Head of Exhibitions at the NAM. The look and feel of the exhibition must enhance the aims and themes of the exhibition narrative. The successful tenderer is also responsible for the graphic elements of the exhibition, including title walls, text panels, object labels and large-scale imagery. The successful tenderer should account for the production of visuals for presentation to NAM board members and also artworking graphic files to print from. The successful designer will be required to liaise with graphic production companies to produce the graphics elements, including approval of proofs. This is a complete design turnkey operation. The designer will therefore be required to attend regular project meetings, some of which will be on site. It is crucial that site visits take place on a regular basis to ensure that structures fit the space and the layout utilises existing socket and data outlets, whilst accommodating other fire requirements and security cameras within the space. The visual identity of the graphic elements of the exhibition, should also take the NAM permanent galleries style guidelines into account, ensuring that all galleries have their own identity, yet work together as a cohesive whole. Graphic identity also needs to be translatable to marketing and public programming. Therefore, the successful designer should be willing to make these elements available to other NAM departments.

The National Army Museum (NAM) (the Client) wishes to appoint a suitably qualified transport agent (the Company) experienced at working with historic museum collections. The National Army Museum currently has two galleries called Battle and Society, which are being redisplayed shortly. In the scope of this brief, the NAM wishes to appoint a suitably qualified fine art transport agent to remove items from both galleries, pack and return them to NAM's stores at Stevenage. This amounts to 859 objects across both galleries. Most of the objects will be decanted and packed by NAM's conservators, however there are several items that require decanting by the transport agent, due to their weight, size, or displayed at height. There are also several items that require packing crates manufactured for transportation. These details can be found in the attached Annexes, which are under separate cover and should be read in conjunction with this brief, to form your tender response. The Museum requires the transport agent to return all items in Annex B to their store in Stevenage, Hertfordshire. Included as separate documents, under separate cover, with this tender brief are: • Annex A - List of objects and paintings requiring new crates, travel frames, or foam-core boxes, as well as de-installation and packing by the transport agent, or rehanging/relocating on site. The transport agent will also be required to provide 7 pallets for the purpose of transporting dressed mannequins, and to secure 4 mannequins to each pallet, with oversight by NAM staff. • Annex B - Total list of all items that the transport agent is required to return to NAM's store at Stevenage. • Annex C - Door widths, lift capacity and access route. The National Army Museum (NAM) wishes to appoint a suitably qualified conservation company or individual conservator ('the conservator') to conserve a 19th century oil painting, details as below: Title: 'Dawn of Waterloo'. The 'Reveille' in the bivouac of the Scots Greys on the morning of the battle, 1815 signed with initials and dated lower left '18 EB 95', by Lady Butler (Elizabeth Southerden Butler, née Thompson), 1895, exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1895. Medium/support/size: Oil on canvas, 1264mm x 1962mm unframed, 1362m x 2063.5mm currently framed in plain gilded wooden slip (to be replaced at a later stage). Condition overview: From examination, the painting appears to be in stable condition in both structural and aesthetic terms. A condition report has been recently completed with treatment recommendations and time estimates. This contract will involve undertaking the conservation of the painting (following discussion and approval of all treatments by the NAM); full documentation, including written reports and photographs, relating to the treatment of each object (sent to the NAM on completion of the project). The Museum has had a condition report carried out and this is attached to this tender. Time scale and hours: This contract is for approx 228-335 hours work and subject to discussion with NAM can be carried out at NAM premises or offsite by the conservator. If offsite then a UKRG security supplement will be required. It is anticipated that the work would start by mid November 2022 and be completed by the mid March 2023 i.e. by the end of this financial year. Tender submissions are requested from suitably qualified and experienced contractors. It is beneficial, though not essential, for the conservator to hold accredited status (PACR - Professional Accreditation of Conservator-Restorers). Tenderers will need to need to ensure that they have insurance covering the total value of the objects and public liability to the value of £5,000,000 We will provide existing condition assessments, images and full descriptions of the objects. The Museum recognises the need for potential tenderers to visit the site for an inspection and subject to staff availability, this can be arranged by appointment with the nominated person. Tenderers should complete their costs for the work on the attached Condition Report.

It commemorates the contribution of soldiers, male and female, who have served in Our Army. By using examples from the past, the NAM inspires the present generation of soldiers to understand that they are the inheritors of a rich tradition of bravery, service and professionalism. The National Army Museum has identified the opportunity to install smart electric vehicle (EV) charging points across its sites in Chelsea and Stevenage. NAM looks to appoint a suitable contractor to supply and install electric vehicle charging points across NAM sites and an appropriate back-office charge point management system. The installation will help support the NAM's overall goal to invest in sustainable alternatives, reduce its own carbon footprint, and will contribute to the reduction of toxic air pollution. NAM hopes the installation will encourage staff and visitors to make the switch to EV reducing their individual contribution to global greenhouse gas emissions. For the project, the NAM will utilise the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) Workplace Charging Scheme grants to help fund the project.

The National Army Museum (NAM) wishes to appoint a conservation company or individual conservator ('the conservator') to conserve and mount or frame 52 paper items in preparation for their display in the Museum from February 2023. Tender submissions are requested from suitably qualified and experienced contractors. It is beneficial, though not essential, for the conservator to hold accredited status (PACR - Professional Accreditation of Conservator-Restorers). Of the 52 Items , 47 have had recent condition assessments with treatment recommendations and time estimates. This contract will involve undertaking the conservation of the items (following discussion and approval of all treatments by the NAM); full documentation, including written reports and photographs, relating to the treatment of each object (sent to the NAM on completion of the project); packing in existing boxes/crates provided by the NAM for collection and return transport. The tender cost is to include insurance both at the company's premises and transportation to and from NAM premises. This contract is for approx. 200 hours work and due to space constraints is to be carried out off site by the conservator. It is anticipated that the work would start by December 2022. The NAM asks that all work be completed by order of gallery installation as specified by the deadlines. NAM will provide existing condition assessments and full descriptions of the objects.
