Northern Gas Networks are in the process of bidding to be the provider of the UK's first trial Hydrogen Village which will involve the conversion of circa 2000 homes in Northern England from Natural Gas to Hydrogen as a fuel source. The award of this project would result in the demand for approximately 2,000 - 4000 domestic hydrogen detectors. Although the technology is available for the detection of Hydrogen NGN do not believe that such a domestic detector is available on the market and as such wishes to engage with potential manufacturers of such a device. Northern Gas Networks are looking for approx. 2-4,000 Hydrogen domestic detectors/alarms to assist in the BEIS/Ofgem led Hydrogen Village Trials that will go live from mid-2024

Since 2019 the Government have shown an increasing commitment to exploring the use of hydrogen as a solution for decarbonizing transport, industry and heat. On 27th October 2022 the GB Gas Distribution Networks (GDNs) were issued a letter by Ofgem and BEIS (The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy) inviting them to put forward high level proposals for Town Pilot locations. These proposals must have the ability to provide and convert to hydrogen up to 20,000 properties comprising a mix of domestic, industrial and commercial by the end of 2030. Additionally, BEIS have requested that each location demonstrate the ability to undertake a phased scale up to convert up to 200,000 properties comprising a mix of domestic, industrial and commercial by 2037. Submission for Town Pilot locations must be returned to BEIS no later than 20th January 2023. NGN are intending to submit 3 Town Pilot locations to BEIS which NGN believe meet the criteria that BEIS have set in terms of scalability and range of users converted. The locations proposed are based within the regions of Humberside, Teesside & West Yorkshire Modelling for each of the locations has been completed providing the expected hydrogen demand for end users within the initial Town Pilot location and at the end of the subsequent wider roll out. The hydrogen demand for each location is detailed below: Tonnes per year Humberside 44,006, Teesside 58,850, West Yorkshire 51,898 NGN are currently developing submissions for each location and are releasing this expression of interest to identify potential hydrogen production partners within the chosen regions. Hydrogen production facilities would need to be situated within the regions and have the capability of providing all or a percentage of the Town Pilot and eventual scale up demands as detailed above. Additionally, production facilities would need to be producing hydrogen by early 2030. To participate further in this exercise please contact achristophers@northerngas.co.uk On receipt of your expression of interest further information will be provided which will include a questionnaire for completion. The Deadline for requesting a questionnaire is 6th December 2022 The deadline for final submission of a response to the questionnaire is 20th December 2022

Northern Gas Networks operate thousands of pieces of pressure reduction equipment dotted across the network. A Governor is a type of pressure reduction equipment. They are often situated in locations that make them susceptible to the risk of being impacted by a vehicle. There are various types of governors and they all form a vital part of the gas network infrastructure. They vary in size, complexity, criticality; some are built predominantly below ground, although parts of the installation would remain above ground. Regardless of the type of governor, it remains important to ensure that the risk of damage is mitigated as much as reasonably possible. The Gas Distribution Networks have been instructed to review their asset data with focus on assessing the risk of vehicular impact. In instances where the risk was deemed to be intolerable, mitigation measures are now required, one of which is impact protection. The standards applied to road restraint systems can be challenging to meet, specifically when applied to relatively small assets with limited amount of free space surrounding them. Therefore, an experienced designer is required who understands these complexities and is able to explore the various measures that could be used in mitigating the risk of impact. In addition to that, the designer must consider the asset and its location, understand the policies and procedures associated with maintaining it and combine the findings into a constructable proposal. Furthermore, the designer must also have the experience of stakeholder liaison to ensure that the proposals submitted are accepted by the relevant stakeholders, which includes the local authority and their highways division. NGN broadly estimates a total requirement for 100 - 150 designs to be undertaken with an approximate requirement for 30 over the next 6 months or so. These are high level estimates and as such are subject to change and more work needs to be done to finalise the requirement. The likely contracting methodology being the establishment of Framework Agreements with suitable suppliers to enable NGN to contract with its "Framework Partners" for the production these designs. In order to participate in subsequent stages of this procurement please contract Andrew Christophers - Procurement Manager Northern Gas Networks Ltd - email: achristophers@northerngas.co.uk

Northern Gas Networks (NGN) are looking for a business to invest in the construction of ten high pressure vessels to be installed on Tees Works land for use during our Redcar Hydrogen Community project. NGN will agree lease terms for a 3-year period after which the successful party will have the option for the assets to remain on site and the lease assigned over or remove and repurpose them for future use. NGN have a detailed design for the pressure vessels and are currently designing options for future proofing the asset. The successful party will become a key partner in the UK's first ever hydrogen village where the project will provide hydrogen to heat around 2,000 homes and business in Redcar. Interested parties need to have experience in procuring, constructing and operating high pressure vessels and be willing to invest in the construction of these assets and lease them back to the project. Northern Gas Networks (NGN) has been given the go ahead by Government and Ofgem to develop its proposals to create the UK's first hydrogen village. As such the Redcar Hydrogen Community is a proposal from Northern Gas Networks (NGN) to supply around 2,000 homes in an area of Redcar and parts of Kirkleatham with locally produced, clean burning hydrogen from 2025. The hydrogen production capacity will be delivered by the neighbouring Teesside cluster with over 2,500 MW of low carbon hydrogen expected to come online by 2030. NGN have identified that, to provide a resilient trial, they will require short term storage for intraday changes in demand profile as well as inter-seasonal storage to make up for the difference between summer and winter production and demand profiles. It should be noted that NGN have recently issued a contract notice for the provision of a full turnkey above ground storage solution that incorporates the supply of these vessels. At this stage of the project NGN has not decided its favoured option which will be driven in part by the level of interest shown in each. This contract notice relates to the provision of the pressure vessels only with associated installation and civils works to be undertaken under separate cover. This Contract Notice is the first stage of a multistage procurement process which will seek to identify a suitable supplier to provide an above ground storage solution in the form of horizontally orientated pressure vessels to store up to 10 tonnes of hydrogen the scope broadly comprising the provision of 10 off 35bar pressure vessels. Should you wish to participate further in this procurement event please email achristophers@northerngas.co.uk in the first instance. On receipt of your email NGN will provide further information which will include equipment specifications and drawings along with a questionnaire for completion. The deadline for requesting a questionnaire is 27th November 2023 The deadline for final submission of a response to the questionnaire is 11th December 2023
