Forestry England – Venison and Wild Boar Collection and Sale Forestry England manages over 250,000 hectares of woodland across England, working to balance the needs of people, nature and the economy. We actively manage wild deer and feral wild boar populations as part of our commitment to timber production, restoring ecosystems and tackling the climate and nature crises. We are seeking experienced operators to collect and purchase venison and wild boar carcasses. All venison supplied is FSC and PEFC certified, with carcasses presented to the British Quality Wild Venison (BQWV) standard and culled using non-lead ammunition. Wild boar is not certified. Our key requirement is the prompt and efficient collection of carcasses from our deer larders, with the capacity to respond effectively to increasing and seasonally variable cull volumes across the estate. Timely uplift is essential to support our wildlife management operations and ensure compliance with food safety standards. Contracts will run for a four-year period, with the option to extend by up to one year. Annual review points are built into the agreement. Continuation will be at Forestry England’s discretion, based on market conditions and performance against agreed key performance indicators. This contract is to fulfil general forest road/ride vegetation maintenance within the South District for Forestry England’s road and ride network. The contract is split into 7 Lots, due to the extent of the geographic area. The contractor can bid on an individual Lot or a group of Lots. If bidding on a group of Lots, the contractor will need to demonstrate capacity to deliver all works required within the selected Lots in the indicative time frame. Only one contractor will be assigned to each Lot.

Forestry England are seeking to award a lease for a cafe concession at it's Cardinham Woods site near Bodmin in Cornwall

Forestry England intend to award a framework contract for civil engineering maintenance and minor works. The framework will be divided into 16 geographic lots, with a 2 Suppliers per lot. Suppliers may bid for any, or all, of the framework lots. The civil engineering activities delivered through this framework are essential to provide access to the nations forests for all activities undertaken by Forestry England, through the regular maintenance and upkeep of our rural infrastructure and associated assets. Construction of larger scale civil engineering infrastructure will be managed under a new civil engineering dynamic purchasing system.

Forestry England is seeking expressions of interest for a brand-new takeaway cafe facility for the new community woodland at Hole Farm, Great Warley.

Forestry England plans to go out to tender in September 2024 (this may change) to find Suppliers that demonstrate professionalism, experience, and a suitable work profile in Direct Production (DP) Harvesting. This requirement will be for all our sites in England but will be split into smaller contracts so that Suppliers can apply for the geographic areas they work in. Forestry England expects most of the work to be undertaken with purpose-built forestry machines deployed within a short-wood system of working. There is a regular element of motor-manual capability required and regular winch extraction to support this work.

Forestry England will be tendering a concession lease for an independent expert group or company to reinstate, develop, maintain, and operate a Premier Downhill Mountain bike facility. This is an excellent opportunity for the successful leaseholder to bring Aston Hill Bike Park back to its former glory and expand the future potential of this unique site by creating new trails and facilities. The 100-acre bike park adjacent to Wendover Woods, has a 40 space carpark and features graded trails of varying difficulty which are technical in nature. It has previously boasted an impressive combination of moderate to advanced downhill runs, as well as a cross-country loop and pump track for MTB beginners. We anticipate that the lease will be for a period of up to 10 years. A full copy of the draft lease will be available in the tender documents to be published in May 2024. The total value of the Aston Hill Bike Park lease opportunity will be in the region of £500,000-£750,000. Forestry England intend to re-tender a concession opportunity to operate our established Café in Haughmond Hill near Shrewsbury, due to expiry of the current lease at the end of January 2025. Our expectation is that we will issue a lease for 6 years with a possible extension of 3 years. Prospective suppliers are invited to express an interest in this opportunity and have initial conversation with our West District Operations Manager - Recreation ahead of the tender documents being published this Spring/early summer.

Forestry England have an upcoming tender requirement for a Framework for Habitat Restoration in the New Forest. The requirements under the Framework will include removal of trees and scrub via the use of chainsaws, brush cutters and flails to enable Forestry England to continue with the restoration of these important habitats. The Forestry Commission is shortly due to tender for a framework agreement for the provision of a Plant Health inspection service for controlled wood, wood products and isolated bark entering Great Britain, in order to protect our woodlands and trees from harmful pests and diseases. This framework agreement will also provide a service for woodland and tree surveys, potentially including urban trees, to detect, assess and sample for the presence of specific tree pests and diseases in Great Britain.
