Transport accounts for 36% of Scotland’s emissions. With clear policy signals including Scottish Government publishing their intention to remove the need for new ICE (internal combustion engine) Heavy Duty Vehicles (HDVs) by 2035.
The College require those who teach skills to have these new and emerging skills themselves. As well as providing the necessary skills to industry, the college sector requires training equipment to effectively demonstrate and teach zero carbon skills. The procurement of additional training equipment in the form of training rigs with real life componentry would provide students with real life experience rather than simulation.
ESP are looking to procure two electric vehicle (EV) commercial trainers, reserving the right to order a third, to assist with the delivery of IMI international level 4 fault diagnosis, testing and repair of heavy electric qualification INT/HVEV4. The EV trainers will be classified as heavy goods vehicles (HGV; 4250kg gross vehicle weight).
As an emerging technology, colleges don’t have access to the EV HDV equipment required to build the workforce and therefore require specialist training equipment.
This project is for a commercial EV training rig made from real-life componentry and suitable for HGVs. The College needs to take delivery of the equipment in January 2026 and is aware of only one supplier that can meet the requirement.
