Connected Places Catapult (the Catapult), is the UK's innovation accelerator for cities, transport and place leadership and they are working on Project Skyway. Project Skyway is an initiative funded by Innovate UK which seeks to create the UK's first "drone superhighway." This would allow drones to fly beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) in a controlled and regulated way, something that isn't currently possible. To do this, a group of organisations with expertise in aviation are working together to develop and test the superhighway. This includes experts in drones, air traffic management and communications. This project is a proof of concept. It is working to deploy the technology, conduct trial flights in Autumn 2023, and submit data for review by the Civil Aviation Authority. The project ends in July 2024. The Catapult are leading on stakeholder engagement as part of Project Skyway. Connected Places Catapult, acting as a partner of the Hydrogen Innovation Initiative, is looking to procure results from a near term demonstration which meets the themes of the vision articulated in the specification and has allocated a budget of up to £50,000 for the procurement and dissemination of these results. In exchange, Connected Places Catapult and HII partners will be entitled to widely disseminate the results from the demonstration activities. This high TRL demonstration must cover 2 or more of: Hydrogen production, hydrogen conversion, hydrogen distribution, hydrogen end use. The demonstration needs to be in the latter stages of planning, with a consortium of funded and suitable partners already engaged. Successful applicants will be required to confirm their proposed demonstration methodology by submitting a report in March 2024 illustrating how the demonstration will be delivered and propose how activities will be disseminated. The demonstration activity and reporting should be complete by November 2024. The demonstration must be taking place in the UK. There will be a requirement for the applicant to deliver an end of project report by November 2024, which HII partners will publish, to help disseminate the learnings from the demonstration to the wider hydrogen supply chain. HII partners would encourage applicants to also articulate any specific requests for further support from HII partners which could support this demonstration (for example, developing material data sets in collaboration with this demonstration). Connected Places Catapult are a member of the Hydrogen Innovation Initiative (Hii), which was set-up with support from Innovate UK and the Industrial Advisory Board to make hydrogen work for the UK. HII has a mission to support UK industry by accelerating the development of critical hydrogen technology and supply chains for the fast-growing hydrogen economy. With industry-wide input, we'll publish a Hydrogen Technology Strategy for UK industry ensuring that, together, we harness the potential of hydrogen technology. We will also work with funding bodies and investors to secure funding for hydrogen innovation and supply chain programmes. HII's partners include the Catapult Network, the Advanced Propulsion Centre, the Aerospace Technology Institute, the Net Zero Technology Centre and the National Physical Laboratory. The primary aim of this contract is to conduct external social research that builds upon CPC's knowledge of the leading Academics, Academic Institutions and Small-to-Medium Enterprises (SMEs) that operate within this programme's primary focus areas. This researcher should primarily focus on exploring the potential alignments of this programme's learnings with the future of rural transportation, based on evidence, user stories and case studies. In addition to sharing knowledge on social impact in the rural environment, the researcher will support the programme's participants in the measurement and evaluation of social impact. We are looking to procure an organisation to conduct research activities to understand: the opportunities for improved intermodal interchange at Bristol Temple Meads Station; the barriers to these opportunities; and prospective areas for innovation to address these barriers. These will be structured and reported as three distinct case studies. This ITT refers explicitly to the supply of three case studies aligned to the theme of improved passenger interchange at Bristol Temple Meads station. The case studies will be formed and based on in-depth and multi-faceted research and engagement with passengers and other relevant stakeholders. We anticipate this will include: 1. Working with CPC to maintain a stakeholder engagement strategy. 2. Conduct human centred qualitative research to inform 3 in-depth case studies of how Bristol Temple Meads station can support and improve integration of journeys into the wider city and region. The exact methods and rationale for these to be determined by the tenderer but we may expect to see interviews, ethnography, observations, surveys. 3. Provide a deep understanding of the existing and desired user experience for rail passengers when interchanging between transport modes at Bristol Temple Meads.
