Anglian Water is looking to engage with the market, to understand what opportunities could be sought to aid our Energy challenges, both in terms of the current volatile financial costs, but also the carbon impact that energy can have.
This is a prior information notice to establish if there is market interest for a future tender for Water Industry Creative Advertising Campaign requirements.
In the last year Anglian Water have been evolving their communications strategy to help customers understand more about the work we do. In order to reach more customers a range of channels are in consideration, now including TV.
Anglian Water regularly review the role of communications and the influence that can, or cannot be, had on business performance. The channels to use within the communication strategy evolves dependent on insight and need following review of performance results. This does mean there is a level of ambiguity and flexibility required on an ongoing basis on what support may be required from an agency. Considering this, if you participate in a tender process and are awarded to, you will be one of a group of agencies who will bid for any work available, and as a result there is no guarantee work.
Anglian Water is looking to engage with the market, to understand what opportunities could be sought to aid sludge dewatering / thickening processes , to inform on the breadth of scope of work , and supply chain access and to inform on a possible tender strategy.
Anglian Water Services Ltd ("Anglian Water") is currently reviewing options for the future delivery of a Modern Contact Centre (MCC).
Anglian Water is looking to procure a Contact Centre as a Service solution to replace the current on-prem contact centre telephony platform. The Contact Centre solution should have the capability of providing a personalised experience to customers by executing inbound, as well as outbound, communication across a variety of channels.
In order to understand the contracting models available for this delivery we have decided to undertake Pre-Market Engagement. We are inviting parties who may have an interest in Modern Contact Centres to complete the questionnaire linked to this event in order to give Anglian Water a better understanding of the feasibility of our requirements and to gain insight to the market possibilities.
Anglian Water are looking for interested parties to present their available product options in regards to the provision of a Modern Contact Centre.
Our Contact Centre serves as the primary hub for incoming and outgoing communications between our company and customers, and is currently spread across multiple physical locations, including Enterprise House in Lincoln, Henderson House in Huntingdon, and Hartlepool. Over 400 agents are responsible for handling a wide range of customer inquiries and issues related to billing, home moves, and operational matters.
The current technology landscape is complex and difficult to navigate, resulting in a lack of actionable insights and operational management. We want to reduce our support costs, simplify our systems, and create an easy-to-use platform that can easily adapt to new channels as they emerge.
Our aim is to provide a digital-first customer experience, and we are looking to transform our traditional voice channels into modern digital channels. While we understand that some customers will still prefer voice-based interactions, we aim to increase the proportion of digital interactions, making it easy for customers to interact with us through various digital channels, including self-serve, social media, and two-way messaging platforms such as WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger.
As a result, we are inviting parties who may have an interest in Modern Contact Centres to complete the event in order to give Anglian Water a better understanding of the feasibility of our requirements and to gain insight to the market possibilities. We are looking for interested parties to present their available product options in regards to the provision of a Modern Contact Centre.
Anglian Water Services Ltd (AWS) produces over 150,000 dry tonnes of raw wastewater derived sludge per annum for treatment. Forecast population growth and increased sludge production as a result of future environmental investment programmes means our total sludge production will increase. Therefore we have a need for additional sludge treatment capacity in our AMP8 investment period (2025-2030).
AWS is the largest water and water recycling company in England and Wales by geographic area. We supply water and water recycling services to almost seven million people in the East of England and Hartlepool.
Our sludge treatment boundaries cover from the Humber in the north to the Thames in the south, from Northampton in the west and across to the East Coast. We also provide water services ONLY to the Hartlepool area.

Anglian Water Services Ltd (AWS) produces over 150,000 dry tonnes of raw wastewater derived sludge per annum, this is treated at 10 regional sludge treatment centres (STC). We treat the sludge using advanced anaerobic digestion technologies and biogas is produced which we currently use as a renewable fuel in combined heat & power (CHP) engines. To support our net zero 2030 plans our intention is to transition our CHP fleet over to biogas upgrading to biomethane for grid injection or other beneficial use.
Our base plan is to switch our sites at Cottonvalley (Milton Keynes), Gt Billing (Northampton) & Whitlingham (Norwich) to biomethane and would consider the option to accelerate our transition across our other STC sites.

The estimated value of this procurement is the full estimated value over the 8 years of framework for the Core services (Lot 1).
Screening waste is Anglian Water's largest waste stream by tonnage at approximately 7000-8000 tonnes annually across the Anglian Water region, all of which is sent to landfill as that is currently the only viable outlet. This equates to 88% of the wastes Anglian Water send to landfill (2021/22 data). The screenings waste (EWC 19 08 01) is prominently made up of wet wipe, sanitary products, and other wastes that are screened out before the Water Recycling Centre treatment processes.
There is a desire to move away from landfill with its negative environmental impacts and increase company reputation and promote our circularity by viewing the wastes as a resource or product.
Operational Technology (OT) Services Framework
Operational technology (OT) is hardware and software that detects or causes a change, through the direct monitoring and/or control of industrial equipment, assets, processes and events.
This PIN may be used to shorten timelines for the tender.
Anglian Water are looking to go out to market for an OT Services Framework. The current proposal is to allocate work under that framework in these areas:
OT Telemetry Installation - All telemetry electrical and associated mechanical/configuration work
OT Automation - All systems integration and associated electrical/mechanical/configuration work
OT Consultancy/Resourcing (across a matrix of roles)
Anglian Water Services Ltd ("Anglian Water") is currently reviewing options for the future delivery of a Common Data Environment and associated tools, and as such is undertaking a Market Engagement Exercise.
We are looking for options that cover off the following functionality:
Common data environment to enable collaboration, both within Anglian Water, and across our partners and supply chain, for models and associated documentation
3D model viewer with mark up and annotation functionality

The scope of the contract is for the provision of a user interface that offers visualisation, alerting and reporting on our sewer network performance. A key requirement is that the platform allows for dynamic interaction by the user.
Expenditure and level of demand is currently unconfirmed, but we have 76,000km of sewers and 11,000 existing sensors with plans to triple this as we develop greater in depth knowledge of our network across our most critical areas of our network. With this system, Anglian Water will be able to:
• Identify and predict blockages or restrictions within our network, using AI and machine learning.
• Identify and report on network performance
• Predict performance of the sewer network with the ability to drill down to catchment level
• Visualise, report and alert on data from a variety of sources in our network.
• Drive condition based monitoring into our maintenance strategies
• Visualise flow strategies that bridge between above and below ground assets
• Enhance our Incident management capability (asset condition triggers)
• Identify sensors that aren't working properly and understand the performance of all sensors.
• Extract data from the platform
Anglian Water currently operate a large interconnected water supply system, set across a broad and diverse geographical region. These systems often have complex operations based upon multiple and changing parameters. Further adding to this complexity is a new Strategic Pipeline spanning the length of Anglian Waters network, increasing the ability to proactively manage water resources and improve resilience is currently being constructed. However this creates further complexity across the Water system which requires additional capability enabling Anglian Water to adopt a more holistic approach.
Water utilities are all facing the same challenges; to drive operational efficiency, enhance system wide operations and improve risk management while aiming for frontier performance in strategic outcomes. Currently Anglian Water operate an existing SCADA network (Out of Scope) with significant levels of automation. This market research is looking to identify the complementary systems available to meet these ever-increasing challenges from source to tap. Therefore, Anglian Water will need to further develop our current control philosophies to move to a planned production environment (Production Planning), through the implementation of more advanced software systems within our OT and IT Architecture. This will provide the ability to operate the water system proactively and enable autonomous control, or to respond to meet the changing requirements and challenges placed upon a smart water system.
The sorts of decisions would include the management and optimisation of:
• Abstraction licence control (Water resourcing)
• Production and distribution costs
• Energy efficiency
• Renewable energy sources
• Asset conditioning
• Water quality
• Supply demand balance (Current)
• Supply demand balance (Forecast)
• Maintenance planning (To enable production planning)
• Water storage points
• Incident management (Appropriate response to unplanned water system events)
• Manual scenario planning
There is also consideration in the ability to utilise these solutions to manually assess scenarios to inform planning activities and future investments.
