Outdoor Community Space Regeneration and Landscaping Project

Gillingham Town Council would like to make improvements to the Town Meadow in the centre of Gillingham in order to accommodate more groups, organisations and businesses who wish to hold events, such as craft markets and plant sales; which in turn will help to increase footfall in the High Street and help to strengthen and improve the economy. The area needs proper drainage as during the wetter months the area is muddy and cannot be used. The proposal is to install grass paving grids (also known as grasscrete) which will provide a hard surface suitable for commercial vehicles, improve the drainage and allow events to be held throughout the year. The Town Meadow provides important pedestrian links between the High Street and the Library, the Museum, the Community Office, public car park, and onwards to the Railway Station. The project includes improvements and enhancements of these important pedestrian routes. Accessibility paths will be constructed to allow easy access for wheelchair users. The existing hard surfaced areas will be edged and improved, and benches and flower planters will be installed to create an area which is aesthetically pleasing and welcoming to all.
