Cell Assembly Enabler
Earlier notices predate the Procurement Act 2023 (commenced 24 Feb 2025) and therefore don't carry UK1–UK17 codes.
The UK Battery Industrialisation Centre (UKBIC) is part of the UK Government’s Faraday Battery Challenge. UKBIC is a national battery manufacturing development facility helping to scale-up battery manufacturing and facilitate upskilling in the battery sector. We are a publicly funded, open access facility, funded by the Faraday Battery Challenge at UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). The facility currently has two main cell designs that can be manufactured on its current production lines, a 300 x 100 pouch cell design and a 21700 cylindrical cell design. To better support the industry UKBIC is considering investment in additional cell assembly lines such as for tab-less cylindrical cells and prismatic cells. A pre-requisite for doing this is to have well developed cell designs with which UKBIC can engage with potential equipment suppliers and so this is the purpose of this “Cell Assembly Enabler” project. The cell designs being considered have been split into two lots and bidders are invited to submit tenders for either or both lots according to their experience and expertise.
